About the Artist

Joan Hewitt

I wanted to become an attorney from the age of thirteen.  That goal has been achieved, but after 15 years of practicing law my creativity was bursting to get out. 

I have always had a strong love of animals, as well as an unquenchable thirst for colors.  Exploring nature through art became therapy for me.  Many of my friends had young children, and I liked the idea of creating unique gifts for them, something they could use, yet treasure forever.  Hand-painted children's furniture came to mind.   

Each piece of hand-painted children's furniture is unique, custom crafted to meet the wishes of the customer.  Many become family heirlooms, keepsakes that can be handed down through generations.  My hand-painted children's furniture includes high chairs, small tables (round or square) and chairs, rockers,  and decorated wood boxes that kids love to keep their treasures in.

To incorporate the character of the furniture wood grain into the artistic design, I use colored stains instead of simply painting the unfinished pieces of furniture.  I enjoy trying to improve my designs, experimenting with color, using different animals and finding new “canvases” on which to express myself. 

Creating unique and colorful children’s furniture has become my passion, yet I am continuing to explore different areas of art, including stained glass and mosaics.  After so many years of working as an attorney I feel I have found my true calling.  As pieces are added to it, this web site will reflect new creative ideas and the expansion of my art.

I do not accept orders requesting the use of copyrighted images or characters.  Shipping costs vary widely, especially for children's furniture, and are not included in prices shown.  Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.
